Abstract
The construction industry is currently undergoing a digital transformation driven by the adoption of Building Information Modelling and cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and the Internet of Things. However, the Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical Industry, a significant sector within construction, faces notable challenges in embracing digital transformation due to its distinct characteristics and requirements. This research focuses on investigating the pivotal role and impact of BIM and emerging technologies in Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical Industry construction projects within the Middle East and Africa region. The study aims to gain insights into the present state and future potential of digital transformation in Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical Industry projects by examining the various factors, processes, and outcomes associated with the adoption and implementation of BIM and emerging technologies. By leveraging the Technology Organisation-Environment framework, the research identifies and thoroughly analyses the drivers and barriers that influence the adoption of BIM and emerging technologies in OGPi construction projects. Also, the study develops and applies a comprehensive conceptual model based on the Integration Definition for Function Modelling method to effectively evaluate the integration and effectiveness of BIM and emerging technologies in OGPi projects. Through a meticulous secondary data analysis approach, the research systematically collects and synthesizes existing data from diverse sources to comprehensively address the research objectives. The findings underscore the substantial benefits and opportunities that BIM and emerging technologies offer in enhancing project performance, mitigating risks, improving efficiency, and fostering collaboration and coordination in OGPi construction projects in the MEA region. This research significantly contributes to both academic and practical knowledge in Construction Engineering Management by providing valuable insights and strategic recommendations for enhancing the digital transformation of OGPi construction projects in the MEA region and beyond
