Abstract
Security is a paramount concern in both residential and commercial settings. Traditional door lock systems, such as mechanical keys and PIN codes, have limitations and vulnerabilities. Facial recognition technology has been widely used in various applications and offers an advanced, secure, and convenient alternative particularly in security and access control. This study presents the design and implementation of a facial recognition door lock system based on the ESP32-CAM microcontroller and the OV2640 camera module. The system is designed to provide a secure and convenient method for accessing restricted areas. The ESP32-CAM incorporated with OV2640 camera are responsible for capturing and analyzing facial images in order to identify authorized individuals. The system operates using a 5V power supply, a relay module and FTDI programmer to facilitate communication and control to the system. Additionally, a solenoid lock, powered separately by a 12V supply, ensures physical door security. This facial recognition door lock system accurately identifies authorized users and grants access while denying entry to unauthorized persons. It has the potential to significantly enhance security and improve access control efficiency in various settings, including homes, offices, and other buildings. The research involves hardware and software integration, including image capture, processing, and decision-making algorithms. Also aims to provide a cost-effective, reliable, and user-friendly solution for residential and commercial security. On testing the design, the system demonstrates high recognition accuracy, efficiency, and practicality in real-world scenarios.
